Prom Makeup Tutorial: Cut Crease Eye | Hudson Valley Senior Photographer
As a Hudson Valley Senior Photographer, I know a lot of students who are currently looking forward to the biggest night of the spring...prom! I wanted to share some helpful tips for all of you about makeup application. Now I'm no expert on makeup at all--I wear the bare minimum most days--but I love the art of it and wanted to give you a few gorgeous yet achievable looks!
Kelsie Wessel is up first and she's teaching us how to do this cut crease eye winged eye look, step by step, including products she used.
1. PRIME lids up to the eyebrows; Kelsie used Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
2. APPLY eyeshadow that matches skin tone on lid up to the eyebrows; Kelsie used the Morphe Jaclyn Hill Palette color "Enlight" and a Morphe M167 brush
3. APPLY eyeshadow that is a medium shade in and above the crease, little by little; Kelsie used the Morphe Jaclyn Hill Palette color "Silk Cream" (a taupey color) and a Morphe 433 brush
4. APPLY eyeshadow that is the main crease color you want in and above the crease, little by little; Kelsie used the Morphe Jaclyn Hill Palette color "Jacz" (a rich burgundy color that inadvertently matched her hair!)
5. APPLY eyeshadow in a much darker color on the outer edge of the crease, with a very light hand; Kelsie used the Morphe Jaclyn Hill Palette color "Central Park" (a dark brown color)
6. CUT the crease by painting the eyelid only with concealer, using a dense, flat brush so as to make a straight line, and making sure not to blink until the concealer dries; Kelsie used Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer and a Morphe M432 brush
7. WHILE waiting for the concealer to dry, try not to blink. You can take this time to do any necessary blending of the crease colors
8. ONCE the concealer is dry, apply eyeshadow over it in a color that you want to compliment or contrast with the crease color; Kelsie used the Lorac Pro Palette 2 color "Rosé" (a rose gold color--she loves to pair a matte crease and shimmery lid) and her finger to apply!
9. APPLY a very light color to the inner corner of the eye; Kelsie used the Lorac Pro Palette 2 color "Snow" (a shimmery off-white)
10. LINE your eye, starting smaller at the inner corner and winging out beyond the lid: Kelsie used NYX Matte Liquid Liner but advises using whatever kind of liner that you are comfortable using, be it liquid, felt tip, pencil, or even an angle brush and liner pot. To make the outer wing tip look extra sharp, you can also use concealer as shown.
11. PREPARE band eyelashes by measuring them to the size of your eye and trimming as needed; Kelsie used Ardell Faux Mink 811 lashes
12. PAINT lash glue on the band of the eyelashes. After waiting a short while for it to get sticky, apply to your own lashes using a lash applicator or angled flat tweezers. Make sure inner and outer corners are attached; Kelsie used Duo Lash glue (pay attention to glue ingredients if you have a latex allergy!)
13. CURL natural and faux lashes together.
14. APPLY mascara; Kelsie used Maybelline Great Lash Big mascara.
15. LINE the lower lid. Then use the main crease color eyeshadow and add some under the lower lid, focusing on the outer edge of the eye and staying close to the lash line.
Voilà! Such a gorgeous, romantic look, right? And with a bit of practice and playing around with products and colors, you should totally be able to achieve this style for prom.
But if you're still not sure about DIY-ing it on such a big night, Kelsie is also available to do your makeup application for you! Just shoot her an email at : Kvanbeusichem@gmail.com
