Dutchess County NY Senior Photographer | When to schedule your Senior Portrait Session
As a senior portrait photographer, I see a lot of confusion about the best time to book a senior session. Each year, right before yearbook deadlines, I receive many calls and emails from parents or students from schools such as Stissing Mountain, Taconic Hills, and Webutuck. By knowing the best times to schedule senior photos, you can plan accordingly and not have to rush at the last minute.
Students in our area start their senior year in early September. Soon after, they begin to be bombarded with senior this and senior that, on top of their studies and busy extracurricular calendars. Before you know it, it's October and yearbook photos are due. Yes, they're generally due in October! That doesn't really give you much time after the school year starts to get portraits done. So how about this:
SPRING of your junior year is a great time for senior portraits! If you like blooming trees, patches of wildflowers, and the bright greens of spring, late April through June are perfect for you. It may seem strange at first to book so early, but it's worth it when you see the images!
SUMMER vacation before your senior year is an ideal time for senior portraits! Daylight lasts much longer and those late summer sunsets are a perfect backdrop for your photos. Plus you're generally a bit more relaxed during the summer, and maybe have a nice tan as well. Imagine how glad you'll be when the busy school year starts and you already have your yearbook photo chosen.
FALL. Everyone loves fall--the foliage, the sweaters, the boots. If you've got your mind set on senior photos against an autumn backdrop you need to plan ahead. Photographers such as myself are in high demand during September and October by not only seniors, but also families and others who want foliage sessions. I've already started booking for October and only have a few dates available for seniors to have their images by the school yearbook deadlines. Keep that in mind.
